Osgoode’s South Asian Law Students’ Association (SALSA) cordially invites you to Retro Reel at the Royal, a fundraising event in support of The Honourable Russell Juriansz ’72 Bursary at Osgoode Hall Law School for students in financial need.
The Honourable Justice Russell Juriansz ’72 Bursary commemorates the achievements of Ontario Court of Appeal Justice Russell Juriansz. The Honourable Justice Russell Juriansz is the first visible minority to be appointed to the Ontario Court of Appeal, and the first, and thus far only, Canadian of South Asian descent to be appointed to the Superior Court of Ontario. The Honourable Russell Juriansz ’72 Bursary is designed to recognize the achievements of Justice Juriansz, as well as to provide financial assistance to law students in financial need.

On January 31, 2014, SALSA will be screening Pyaasa, a 1957 Hindi language film widely regarded as one of the greatest films of the 20th century, at Royal Cinema (608 College St, Toronto, ON M6G 1B4). The film will be screened with English subtitles. A reception will precede and follow the screening. Ticket purchasers are entitled to complementary Indian appetizers, concession snacks (popcorn and soft drinks) and champagne. Attendees will also be eligible for various door prizes.
The reception will showcase a silent auction, where vintage hand-crafted movie posters of classic Bollywood films from the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s will also be held. These posters are truly unique, and capture iconic Hindi cinematic characters in vivid detail (posters available include Awaara, Mother India, Gambler, Sholay and many other).
The event starts promptly at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online. Tickets, subject to availability, may be sold at the box office on the day of the screening for $50.
